West Earlham & Bowthorpe Pride in Place recruitment campaign

At Plain Speaking PR, we believe in the PR circle of success. In short – if you’re doing good work, we’re here to help you tell others about it

That’s why we were delighted to support the Pride in Place project for West Earlham & Bowthorpe in Norwich.

£20 million has been designated by the Government to support the community, with local people deciding how that money will be spent.  The Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board has been formed to decide where investment is most needed, with residents and stakeholders sharing their perspectives to ensure community voices are at the very heart of decision making.

Project facilitator and Chair of the new board, Rebecca White, asked Plain Speaking PR to help spread the word about this incredible opportunity for West Earlham and Bowthorpe.  Working with our colleagues at creative agency Naked Marketing, we delivered a targeted PR, communications and marketing campaign to launch the project and encourage people to apply to join the Board. Our work included writing content for a new website and a promotional postcard that was delivered to households across West Earlham & Bowthorpe.  We also used social media to ensure the news reached the local community, and people had all the information needed to express their interest to join the Board.

We invited local media to meet  Rebecca White, Chair of the Neighbourhood Board, along with local politicians, Councillor, Jenny Knight, and Norwich South MP, Clive Lewis.

It gave journalists the opportunity to hear first-hand about the exciting potential of community-led decision-making and the impact local people can have when they’re empowered to shape their neighbourhood.

Media coverage appeared across the Eastern Daily Press, Norwich Evening News and BBC Radio Norfolk, including a lively phone-in debate on Radio Norfolk too, helping raise awareness of the project and encouraging residents to have their say.

We’re excited to see how the project develops in the months ahead.

Building relationships and raising awareness for organisations that make a positive difference is at the heart of what we do, and we are proud to be helping to do that right here in Norfolk.

If you’re working on a project that deserves to be seen and heard, we’d love to help.

Contact us here to start talking about the good work you’re doing, and how we can help spread the word.

Steph began her career in communications almost 20 years ago as a journalist on local newspapers in Suffolk and Norfolk.

Every day involved meeting new people and writing about a diverse mix of topics, which gave Steph a real appreciation for the issues that affect people across the region and honed her ability to build trusted relationships.

When she left journalism to pursue roles in PR, Steph took her news instincts with her and has achieved valuable media coverage for organisations from a varied range of industries, including healthcare, education, housing and animal welfare.

Steph, a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, now brings her eclectic experience to Plain Speaking PR as a freelance consultant, supporting clients with bespoke copywriting, research and media pitching.

Outside of work, Steph enjoys family days out with her young daughter, cuddles with her rescue cat Clarence, a good thriller on the telly, and the – albeit occasional – run.
